Been rapping since I was 11, I grew up on the Golden Era of Hip Hop (I.E. Pac, Big, Jay-Z, OutKast, Nas, Wu-Tang, Tribe).  I was all about emulating my favorite rappers and went to great lengths to get my favorite rap tapes and cds (because my parents wouldn’t let me buy the parental advisory stuff).  In high school I was into 50, Eminem, and the Clipse then got into more “conscious” rap like Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and The Roots, this is where I began developing my skills more. In college my girlfriend introduced me to the world of the underground/indie rap scene where I got heavily influenced by acts like BusDriver, Atmosphere, Murs, Sage Francis, El-P, Company Flow, Aesop Rock, etc.  Amongst all of this I got into tons of different music and I am heavily influence by post-hardcore/experimental/folk/indie music and punk-aesthetics in theory.
     I graduated with a degree in English from the University of California, Riverside, which makes me look at my approach to Hip-Hop and song-writing very critically, I attempt to apply transdisciplines of art, film, pop-culture references, literature, poetry, creative writing intertwined with Hip-Hop styles, and great song-writing with outside influences from Jesse Lacey of Brand New, Tim Kasher of Cursive, and Morrissey to name a few. Quickly, the name Faimkills simply means that I feel fame and America’s celebrity obsession deplete the greatness of art because we put emphasis on the artist and not the art itself. Also fame has been the underlying cause for the deaths of some of the greatest minds, be it presidents, rappers, musicians, artists, actors.

Interesting tidbit: When I first hit you guys up I was a bit ill-prepared to send something when I found out that you honestly critique the music you play. However,having finished my mixtape and finding out more about myself as an artist, I am ready for that sort of thing.  I have sent you one of the songs from my mixtape that has been getting pretty decent attention from everyone I show locally, and even got some podcast play on soprupradio.com.  I split my time playing guitar for a band called Spirit Fangs.

Vinyl Dial is a Progressive Rock act (self proclaimed ìNeo Progressive Psychedelic Avian Space Rockî) from Bedfordshire, UK formed in 1979. The original, unchanged lineup consists of Burleigh Rab (Lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter), Mungo Waldorf (rhythm and lead guitarist, backing vocalist) , Bryne Shure (keyboardist, effects and backing vocalist), Jeremy Verdict PhD (drums and backing vocalist) and Richard ìPopî Robjohns (bassist).

The band split in 1983 after an extremely lengthy tour, which not only meant a long time away from home for the young musicians, but it was impractical for them to continue due to logistic problems of their university lives. The prog rock quintet reformed in January 2009 and despite the 26 year split, the band, now into their forties, continue to write music and perform gigs.

After a year or two of writing they found drummer Taylor Sullivan and the band was complete. BIO: D-Lux, also known as Young D, was born 1989 on North Capitol St Southeast Washington DC, raised in the Longreach area of Columbia, MD. Music has always been a passion for D-Lux as he was heavily influenced as a child. Although he was not able to witness the rise and shine of many of his favorite artist, D-Lux was always influenced by older Hip Hop legends such as 2Pac, Big L, Eazy E, Biggie, Q-Tip, Mos Def, Mobb Deep, & Ice Cube. He grew up listening to these artist as well as artist of his lifetime such as Eminem, Lupe Fiasco, Jay-Z, NAS, Fabolous, Cassidy, DMX, Jadakiss, Three 6 Mafia, 50 Cent, Young Jeezy, Kanye West, TI, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, and many others. Around age 16, D-Lux began to think about what it was he wanted to do with his life. It wasn’t until he arrived on campus at Bowie State University in 2007 that he finally decided that he wanted to go all out with his music career. Before college, D-Lux had been rapping and making tracks, getting spins around his neighborhood but it was all for fun. He was in a group named the Frontline Souljahs which featured himself, his brother Talentz, and longtime friend Duece Uno. When D-Lux checked in at Bowie State, he met two other people who shared the same passion for music as he did. Jsmooth of Clinton, MD, and FRESH of Southern Ave Southeast Washington DC created a group called the Bonafied Hustlaz and later formed with Frontline Souljahs to create the Bonafied Souljahs. The name would later be changed to Fly-N-Flashy Entertainment. It’s the will power of D-Lux himself and the motivation from his family and friends that keeps D-Lux in pursuit of his dream. He never wanted to be labeled as one of those individuals who grow up, get a job, and hate it but keep it because it pays the bills, even though they cant stand to be there each and every day. He knows that everyday in the work place will not always be a happy one but should always be a place at which you would want to be. D-Lux hopes to one day be an inspiring Hip-Hop artist and have his music heard worldwide by millions and millions of fans. He can currently still be found on campus at Bowie State University. D-Lux has dropped multiple mixtapes through the course of the last 2 years. His most recent project, “Up & Comin Vol. 3:Deep Sleep The Mixtape”, is hosted by A&R Drekz. A&R Drekz is one of the many promoters and DJ’s D-Lux has worked with, this one hailing all the way from New South Wales, Austrailia. The Vol. 3 Mixtape, available on datpiff.com, is the prelude to D-Lux’s October 09 Album, “The Rude Awakening”. The track “Hit em Up” featuring Sun of G-Unit South/Interscope Records, is a featured single off the LP. In 2003 Killah Boodah (the front man for the group) started by performing a capella in high school, at he time he was just a young punk from fernley. Killa boodah recorded his first 3 songs, Party Like Boodah, Nothing Left, & Double Barrel Execution in 2004. w0rriaz began in 2005 after the fallout of the never-realized Seven-Sin Clan. As Killah B00dah looked away from his own Juggalo lifestyle and focused his already all-too Anarchistic view of the world, He began work with Professor Ah’Gy the Scholar on what would become the inception of what all this is now. Not too long after, The Technomancer recruited the styles of The Incredible Tonerz, who holds true to the practices of Anonymous. For 2 years, these three worked to build a suitable catalog of material worthy for the listening public. Though when they finally began work on producing live shows they received a new w0rriah The Don of Rhyme. And for a time, it was good. Then Professor Ah’Gy grew tired of The Left Armpit of the US (as all do) and amicably left the group to pursue more schooling abroad. This forced the group to take this ever more seriously. In preparation of their show in May of 2009 they actively sought more individuals to join up with the group as they decided to be a Hydra. Being blessed with three new faces; Big Frank the Deacon whose freestyle trumps all. Krizeck Spliffz who moonlights as a IJ (Internet Jockey) for Psychopathic Internet Radio and Lil Roach the young anarchist from the desert. w0rriaz is an ever evolving cell of artists, who welcome every style and idea, that doesn’t perpetuate the ideas of main stream hip hop.

I was first introduced to rapping when I was 12 and one of my friends who was a rapper said he would give me the game Diablo II if I could write a rhyme. Although rapping didn’t stick at that point, it did open up that door to me as I began to see it as a viable form of expression. I actually began rapping and recording when I was 16, and after heavily listening to The Diplomats I decided to download their instrumentals and record over them on the computer with a mic. Other people knew I had a “studio” and good beats so they would frequent my house to record. This caused me to considerably step my game up, I started recording with other people whenever I could. Over the years to follow I dealt with a lot of bullshit that actually helped me write some songs that really expressed my sentiments. This song here is one of them. I am continuing to write and freestyle, so there will be more to come.

Drum N’ Bass Earth

After turning on the radio time and time again and hearing the same song over and over, I got fed up with the fact that mainstream music has become either “I got women, I got money, I had to use the money to pay for the women but you’re supposed to think I’m cool anyway”, a variant on the exact same chords over and over again, or both. So I started digging around and discovered the musical epiphany that was DJ-ing. It’s been years since I started working the turntables, and in that time I’ve discovered countless genres and subgenres of music that most people wouldn’t even dream existed (Anyone ever heard of Gay Club House Music?) One in particular grabbed my attention. Drum and Bass, or Jungle, represents everything I like about music. It’s energetic, it’s expressive, it’s fast, and it almost REQUIRES listener participation - most tracks are designed to be mixed with other tracks. About a year ago, I began writing my own music. This is my most recent track, which I made with a free program and a laptop. My dream is to inspire anyone who is as fed up as I am with mainstream music to create something that will wipe out any trace of monotony from the radio, replacing it with music that was written for the enjoyment of the writer with no concern for whether or not it would make a record label a few extra dollars. Let the revolution begin.

We started out back in January, Dorney, Ryan and Jack went to college together and spoke about starting a band, so Dorney asked Jaymes who was a drummer in a previous band and he said he’d be up for it. We then met our singer in a pub one night at a karaoke night. Everything went well until Hayden dropped out at our first recording session so Ryan, who was our bass player stepped forward to do vocals instead, so we got a new bassist who was a friend of the bands. Since then we’ve been working hard at getting a 6 track ep together and playing mostly local shows with bands like Fate of A Stranger, The Debut, Fall Against Fate, Scholars, Don Broco and None The Less.

I rep a hiphop crew called “Gill Breathing” which consists of Mathematik (emcee/DJ/b-boy), Solar C (emcee/DJ/beat maker), B (emcee) and Elaquent (beat maker) and your’s truly Es (emcee). “Gill Breathing” basically is the current generation of “Gill” offspring from the “Gill” family tree, living and breathing. But his success story did not happen over night … the first few singles he did flopped and record label’s friends etc…told him the songs didn’t sound properly done, thus it was very hard to get the labels or anyone to take him or his music seriously. But he was determined not to give up and was in the studio recording day and night to get his music on the proper level. After one full year of writing, re-writing and recording he began to emerge as a better artist and unexpectedly began to recieve positive remarks from established artists, record producers, labels etc. It was then he knew he was headed in the right direction.

Formed in 2007 by Orion (Guitar) with Leo (Bass), Kev (Drums), Random guy Orion found (vocals). Orion later fired all and searched the nation for talent. He found Corvus (lead vocals) in New Jersey, Aries (drummer) in Cincinatti, Lynx (bass) in Milwaukee. The group then formed in Florida, but when Orion said he wanted to be closer to LA (San Diego) the bass player decided he was accostomed to Florida and wanted to stay and the drummer was terminated. From San Diego, Corvus and Orion went to Tijuana to record their demo. Orion plays all instruments on the demo and Corvus does lead vocals. The band is currently searching for a drummer and bass player for a live play.

The band was created in 2006 by Simon - the guitarist and Paulina - the drummer girl, influenced by bands like Slayer, Machine Head, Acid Drinkers. The band encouraged many lineup problems, but finally in November 2008, Simon took the vocals, Vincent joined to play the bass and Rafal took the other guitar. The band recorded it’s first demo and plays gigs regularly, gaining lots of listeners. Now they are preparing to enter the studio and record a proffesional EP, to seek for a label.

Our band has been labeled many things including emo, screamo, metal and sometimes ’shit.’ Taken in stride, we do our best to please the local audience that actually digs our sound and have been asked on multiple occasions when we plan on getting a tour together. Although a lot of people ask us to define what kind of genre we fall in it’s always hard because our band likes to mix screamo, metal and on occasions alternative styles into our mix. The lead vocalist does his best to scream his throat sore, the second vocalist mixes his choir-like voice into the effect while also playing guitar and the drummer does his best to keep rhythm and lay heavy beats to it all. A quick interesting fact is that the lead guitar, rhythm guitar and bass guitar are all played by the same guy. The day we went to the studio, the bass and rhythm part for this song were actually made up 30-minutes before leaving town. I guess the guitarist has a knack for music because not only does he devote his time in this band, he has also played in a jazz band that toured through Hong Kong, Japan.

DorothyScarecrowTinmanLion are a guitar/drums two piece intensity living in South London. Samuel Chatterley organises guitars, vocals and books, Samuel Freeman controls drums, vocals and buttons. DorothyScarecrowTinmanLion met in a rainy bus shelter at 11.14pm on Valentines Day 2009. Sharing fizzy pop and chips the two found THE MACHINE in a charity shop doorway. After dusting off the decay pressing THE MACHINE’s buttons led to evil noises coming out. THE MACHINE then guided the Samuels to put the evil noises into guitars, drums and voices. This is how the songs were made. With the help of local mystics THE MACHINE’s noises were crafted into a four track E.P. It is called I Sometimes Have Sick Fancies.

KURSK was formed by Wall Street stock broker Daniel May to record tracks for his film, “The Art of the Swindle”. A 19th century former Church in Kentucky (outside Cincinnati) was purchased as a recording studio and worked commenced. Re-Christened “Bilskirnir” after the God of Thunder’s ancestral home, it was soon full of classic musical instruments, vintage recording technology and extensive film gear. The studio was impressively renovated and with 40 foot ceilings, allowed a live band to play at full volume during recording sessions day or night. Most visitors were simply awed by the ambience and more than 1 remarked that it had the intensity of Berlin 1945. The future is now.

Ngqibs is songwriter from South Africa, 20 years old and musical. His self produced and released independent debut album Let Me Be was released to major online stores digitally on the 9th of February 2009 with the CD release taking place later this year. The entire album, with the exception of 4 songs, was produced primarily on Apple’s GarageBand. There are two editions of the album, the standard edition and the Recharged version with an additional 3 songs. He has a knack for writing what some would call weird but catchy songs. He recently turned down a distribution deal with Sony BMG Africa. Heavily influenced by Pop and R&B. Ngqibs hopes to create some unique songs and affirm his niche in this industry.
